USD in Solidly

Solidly reads .usd, .usda, .usdc, and .usdz through OpenUSD and presents the composed stage in USD's own vocabulary. Where a glTF file has nodes and meshes, a stage has prims, layers, variant sets, purposes, and payloads, and Solidly names them accordingly.

USD is a viewing format

Solidly does not write to USD files. The editing controls available for glTF and FBX, covering transforms, materials, and hierarchy operations, are absent for a stage, and Save and Save As are disabled.

What Solidly does allow is changing the view of the stage: selecting variants, loading and unloading payloads, filtering display purposes, muting layers, and setting subdivision complexity. Those are composition operations, authored on an in-memory session layer that is never written to disk, so the asset on disk is unaffected.
